The past few days have really been fun! Yesterday John was heading to gaming with some new friends when he lost his steering. Eventually he was able to stop (but not on the side of the road) and have a look. John said the car look like it had gone cross-eyed, as both tires suddenly turned inward like this / \. He got it to a mechanic who immediately said the magic words..."tie rod". As it turns out it's the passenger side, too. The first thing that went on the tempo when we got it.
Yesterday was also supposed to be my pay day. Which would have been great 'cause then we could have paid the mechanic np. But the accountant screwed up at work, and forgot about me. So no payday till Tuesday at the earliest.
Then today I head to the surgeon for my hand and to get our questions finally answered. When I mentioned the horrible treatment that I had received the last few times I had been to the hospital for my hand he was actually shocked and said that he would have lost it long before now. I felt much better at that moment. Then he said the words "aneurysmal bone cyst" and "giant cell tumor" Both are the same thing. I have a tumor in my hand. check out this website for info www.bonetumor.org/tumors/pages/page151.html. I had blood tests and urine tests suddenly up to my ears (6 large vials of blood) and now I needs to have a full body bone scan done in a month to see if I have more, and an MRI sometime in the next 2-3 months. After that I book another apt with the surgeon, to review the test results, then I book the surgery. Once that is done I'm looking at a recovery time of a few weeks to a few months depending on what he has to do. In the mean time my hand stays splinted and I can't do my favorite job at work.
The mechanic also called back to day to give us great news. The tie rod had also seized in it's sleeve, so he had to replace that too. But while he was working on the front end, he was doing a detailed inspection and said that everything else under there was in amazing condition. He replaced the tie rod and sleeve, did an oil change, a lube job, a wheel alignment all for a grand total of $340. I almost broke my jaw as it hit the floor! And he even complemented us on our choice of car as he rarely gets to drive on as smooth as this one. So even though I learned that I have a tumor in my had it was nice to hear that we're not going to be broke because of our car again!
