Also posted on the other blog-o-mine.
It's snowing again and I'm loving it. I had to pick up some kitty litter today and fortunately I didn't make it back before the snow came! Yay!
John asked me the other day why I haven't resurrected "The Cat Carol" yet this year. For anyone who's heard this song or read the lyrics (follow the link above) should understand that this song makes me bawl like a little catholic school boy every time I hear it! With the possibility of having to put Anakin down right before Christmas looming over my head, I though it would be a bad idea for me to bring that particular song out this year. Even just reading the lyrics right now makes me want to smother the him! Poor kitty!
I haven't heard back yet from "the other clinic" yet about the job. I called yesterday and the receptionist said she'd call back when she knew anything and she hasn't yet, so I'll call her again tomorrow.
I head out for my first official night with my new cadet corps tonight. Unfortunately for me it's an army cadet corps and I'm a navy girl, but that's alright. So long as I can get my promotion (higher pay) and get the fun training, like Cold Weather Survival Instructor (yay 6 days in the dead of a prairie winter!) and Unit Human Rights advisor ("someone is abusing you somewhere? Here come into my office and we'll talk.") it will all work out well.
John started his new tech support job with Shaw on Monday. I'm so happy that he got it, because he really enjoys being a technical geek! Some times I resent the computer because he spends more time with it then me. He he. Unfortunately he found out that his first pay day won't be until after Christmas. So we'll do the religious holiday thing on the 24th and 25th. We'll do Christmas dinner with Ross and Sarah (and anyone else stick here) somewhere in that time. Then we'll have our gift exchange that weekend and everyone elses gifts will be sent out in the new year. This should be fun, we'll be able to hit all the boxing week sales!

Winter Wonderland Con't
Tuesday, November 28, 2006
This was Sunday afternoon during our "storm". I personally don't see what was so "stormy" about it, but I'm sure the all the tens of thousands of people who lost power that day say it was really bad. That night the tall building in the background lost it's power as well as the buildings around it. When that happened our power flicked and the ski lit up blue. So I'm guessing that a tree fell over, under the weight of the snow, and hit a power line.
While Sarah and I watched "Love Actually" the first time, we heard a loud crack and turned in time to see this tree top fall from above my building. Thankfully there were no children under it when it fell.
We're expecting this tree to fall soon. Maybe in the next snowfall we're expecting by the weekend. I'd hate to be in the ground floor apartment right there.Labels: Falling Trees, Snow

Our Winter Wonderland!

Anakin seems to be doing LOTS better, which is getting my hopes up that he may live. He still has bad days though, which also keep me grounded. I'm going to wait another week before I take him back to the clinic to get him weighed. Hopefully he really is gaining weight and I'm not just imagining it!
The clinic lost it's power yesterday afternoon so the Dr. closed it for my shift yesterday and today. with out electricity there was no phones and no heat. Since we didn't know when the power would come back on I brought home the 4 little kittens we have for adoption (with Sarah's help). Unfortunately I didn't know one of them was sick, so he stunk up the car for a bit (I hope it's gone now!).
Sarah came over yesterday (understandable Jackie didn't want to chance the roads). While the guys were at "DND Game Day", we watched "How the Grinch stole Christmas" (the original cartoon) and "Love Actually". That was a great movie and I really want to add it to our collection. After we picked up the guys we had dinner - I don't know why but every time Ross and Sarah are over for dinner stupid stuff happens with the food. One time the rice burned on low and last night their chicken didn't cook, even though the oven was set at 400 and it was in for 45 minutes! Any back to the topic. During dinner we watched "Love Actually" again.
It's been snowing for a few days, I think it's been great but then again I don't drive. Another issue the lower mainland has with snow is that the trees are not used to bearing that kind of weight, so they''re falling all over the place and taking power lines with them. I have pictures and I tried to post them but blogger's not letting me right now. I'll try again later.

Tough Weekend
Monday, November 20, 2006
On Saturday I decided I'd had enough with Anakin's weight loss and I needed to know what's making him so sick. All his tests came back normal and yet he's still got diarrhea and now weighs less then my Danials. He's lost a third of his body weight in two months. So we got x-rays of his tummy done, but the Dr. can't take a clear picture. At first the Dr. thought it was because Anakin moved, but the second set showed otherwise. His large intestine is almost three times normal size and full of gas, while the small intestine is a blurry image. The only thing the Dr. could explain the image with, was that there is a mass in the small intestine interfering with the x-rays and with digestion. He also mentioned Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) which would explain his huge intestine. However it does not explain his RAPID weight loss, the x-rays or the lack of other symptoms associated with IBD. We're treating him for IBD anyway because that will alleviate his discomfort at best. At worst it will rule out IBD within a few weeks. He will be going back to the vet in 4 weeks to see how the treatment worked and maybe for more x-rays. But the Dr was really leaning more toward an intestinal tumor then IBD. So if he doesn't show any improvement we will be putting him down right before Christmas.
Right after spending three hours at the vet Ross came to pick us up for a night at Kris an Jackie's. I realized that night just how awesome all my friends are (the annoying, answer shouting men included). I was on the verge of tears when we showed up, but they all helped me feel better. We spend a grand 7 hours there - John learned how to get his ass kicked and I learned that I can't pick up cards!
Yesterday was spend buying food for Anakin so we can TRY to give him his antibiotics (for IBD). We deciding what day of the week he'll be put down (Tuesday evening so that I can have the next two days to cry). John also informed me that it will not be done at the clinic I work at because I would not be able to handle doing laundry knowing he was in the freezer behind me. So we talked about where will we have him euthanized (I might be able to spell that word but I still can't say it). I also decided that my birthday gift will not be left to die on a cold table he'll be in my arms.
Excuse me I need to go hold him now.

I'm going to miss him at my feet when I wake up every morning. The way he loves Danials and Wicket even though Wicket hates him. The way he "prays to the water god" by trying to dig holes in the tile before he has anything to drink. And I'm going to miss the way he ignores me every time he's in trouble.
Hey miracles can still happen, it could still only be IBD!

That's the colour of the sparks that a microwave makes when it's about to blow-up! Yeah, so the microwave that we got as a wedding gift from Kris's Uncle Charlie doesn't work anymore. I was making Anakin his "special" dinner at 1am this morning. Nuking a tiny bit of canned food in the dark, and suddenly everything was bright blue and smoking! I stopped the microwave but it kept humming so I had to unplug it. Now our place stinks like melted plastic! I hope my mother's luck with microwaves is not rubbing of on me! She blew up three of them in less then a month.

Anakin's test results FINALLY came in at 10pm tonight. He was tested for everything including feline AIDS and Leukemia. Everything came back normal, except his platelets, they're a bit low. Dr said that can be expected for something that's had diarrhea for two months! I still have to talk to the Dr. to get the final diagnosis but it's looking more and more like IBD which we can deal with. Now that we've ruled out the bad stuff we know he's not gonna die. He's just gonna stink A LOT.

Yesterday John treated me to a trip to North Van. As if that wasn't fun enough, three of Her Majesty's Canadian Ships were in dock! The Brandon, Edmonton and the Saskatoon. These ships are part of the Kingston class vessels are are also known as MCDV's or Maritime Coastal Defense Vessels. http://www.naval-technology.com/projects/kingston/ These are some of the smallest ships on our Canadian Fleet so they patrol the east and west coasts, train our new naval officers and recruits, perform as our coast guard and do many other local duties that may be required. As these ships were docked the Edmonton was open for tours. Unfortunately, because it took so long to get there, and we had to wait in a huge line we had to leave before we took the tour because I had to get back for work. It was great fun anyway be cause we also checked out the market on the quay and came home with some meat pies. Not the ones we wanted but that was ok anyway.

On Saturday John and I went to Jackie's sex toy party. It was the most fun I'd had in a very long time! Considering the content of the party, it was clean fun, too. Jackie can really host a party! I can't wait for our order to get here. John started out trying to recruit me as sales rep but by the end of the party he became more interested in doing it himself! However I am interested in hosting a party myself sometime in the new year. Sarah, let me know if you're going to start selling this stuff so we can be your first party! I already have people who want to come, and I'll open it for family who is out of town and want to order, too. For everyone who is interested the company name is UnderCoverWear and the website is http://www.undercoverwear.com/ check it out! The stuff is great and even I can handle most of the fragrance stuff!

Right on the heals of finding out that I may never have a bioligcal baby, my body decides to go into "crazy" mode and make me wonder. To say my period was late is an understatment. It was 12 days late! I had some pregnancy tests done and both came back negative - but I talked to my sister and she said that she was about 5 weeks along before hers came back positive. It's been a hard 2 weeks, wondering if I am or not. Not knowing for sure one way or the other. But I finally have an answer. A big, fat, written in painfully red letters..."NO!"
I feel sad that there's no baby, yet at the same time relieved that the waiting is over.
For the record it was 40 days! So I'll definitely be talking to my Dr. about that!

Blue!

Test Results!
Tuesday, November 14, 2006

Talk about frustrating!

So I'll definitely be talking to my Dr. about that!
